\u201cWhen will my child start talking?\u201d<\/span> These are common questions many parents ask, and the answer begins with understanding one important fact: language development starts from the very first day of a child\u2019s life. Even before saying a single word, a baby communicates through crying, eye contact, and movements. Every interaction between you and your child is an opportunity to build language.<\/span><\/p>\n Language is considered one of the most important human abilities that distinguishes us from other living beings. It is the foundation of communication, thinking, and learning. Through language, children can express their needs, share emotions, and build relationships with others. Research shows that the first five years of life are a golden period for language development, as the child\u2019s brain is highly flexible and ready to acquire new skills. This highlights the essential role of the family in creating a rich and stimulating environment that supports strong and healthy language growth.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Language is not just the \u201cwords\u201d a child says; it is a complex system that includes several interconnected components:<\/span><\/p>\n Language is therefore a tool for understanding, thinking, and expression, and it is the foundation for academic learning as well as social and emotional development.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n It is important for parents to understand that language has two main aspects:<\/span><\/p>\n This is the child\u2019s ability to understand spoken language, such as responding to their name or following simple instructions like:<\/span><\/p>\n This is the child\u2019s ability to produce and use language to express themselves, such as saying:<\/span><\/p>\n It is completely normal for receptive language to develop before expressive language. Children usually understand much more than they can verbally express.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Language appears in multiple forms that work together to support communication:<\/span><\/p>\n Includes listening (understanding) and speaking (expression).<\/span><\/p>\n Includes reading and writing, which begin to develop later when the child starts school.<\/span><\/p>\n Includes gestures, facial expressions, tone of voice, and body language. These are important communication tools, especially during early childhood.<\/span><\/p>\n Example:<\/b> <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Share everyday activities:<\/span> Use clear, simple sentences with a warm tone of voice.<\/span><\/p>\n If the child says:<\/span> Simple songs help reinforce vocabulary and memory.<\/span> During meals:<\/span> During play:<\/span> Allow them time to finish their sentences.<\/span> Pretend play (doctor, shopkeeper) creates opportunities for conversation.<\/span> The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends less than one hour daily for children over two years old.<\/span><\/p>\n Direct interaction with parents and real-life play are much more beneficial.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Talk with your child while cooking, cleaning, or shopping. Show enthusiasm for your child\u2019s questions, even if they repeat them often.<\/span><\/p>\n Gestures, facial expressions, and tone of voice help children understand meaning more deeply.<\/span><\/p>\n Praise your child when they use a new word or a longer sentence.
